1. General

What is OXA SpikePod?

OXA SpikePod is a lightweight, rifle-mounted shooting stabilizer based on patented technology. It allows hunters to turn natural and man-made surfaces into stable shooting support from standing, kneeling, sitting and prone positions.

SpikePod is designed for real hunting situations rather than long-range precision shooting. It is not intended to replace conventional shooting supports such as bipods, shooting sticks or tripods, but to complement them. It also serves as a versatile accessory platform for those and other compatible accessories.

Where can I buy OXA SpikePods?

OXA SpikePods are available directly from our online store and through our dealer network. Our online store currently ships throughout the EU.

Outside the EU, OXA products are available through selected dealers. Customers in Norway and Canada can currently order through Varuste.net.

2. Compatibility & Installation

Which SpikePod model fits my rifle?

Choose your SpikePod model based on your rifle’s stock width and type:

  • Hunter – Fits most traditional hunting rifle stocks up to 45 mm wide
  • Hunter L – Designed for wider rifle stocks over 45 mm, such as GRS and KKC
  • Tactical – For rifles with an M-LOK handguard
How do I measure my rifle stock?

Measure the width of your rifle stock at the sling swivel stud mounting point.

If the width is:

  • up to 45 mm → Hunter
  • over 45 mm → Hunter L

Alternatively, you can use downloadaple Fit Template,

What if my rifle does not have a sling swivel stud?

The primary mounting method is a standard sling swivel stud on the underside of the rifle stock, with a maximum diameter of 10 mm. If your rifle does not have one, a suitable stud can usually be installed by a qualified gunsmith.

Hunter and Hunter L can also be mounted using compatible adapters for selected M-LOK, ARCA, UIT/Anschütz, Picatinny and QD sling cup interfaces. Direct screw mounting to a suitable stock or handguard is also possible, but any drilling or modification should be carried out by a qualified gunsmith.

Which firearm brands are compatible with SpikePod?

SpikePod compatibility is not determined by a specific brand or model. It depends primarily on the stock width and geometry, the available mounting interface and the mounting position. SpikePod can therefore be installed on rifles from most manufacturers.

Can I install a SpikePod on an over-and-under combination gun or a drilling?

Yes. SpikePod works very well on combination guns and drillings.

Installation is typically carried out by adding a standard sling swivel stud to the fore-end or by mounting the SpikePod directly with screws.
Although installation is usually straightforward, we strongly recommend having it carried out by a qualified gunsmith.

What if my firearm has a flat-bottomed stock?

The underside of the stock does not need to match perfectly the shape of the SpikePod mounting surface. SpikePod can also be installed on a completely flat-bottomed stock, as it tightens securely against the sides of the stock.

What is the optimal mounting position for the SpikePod?

For the best usability, the sling swivel stud should be positioned at least 4 cm—and ideally 7–9 cm—behind the front edge of the fore-end (dimension A). This allows for natural two-point support, with the spike carrying the rifle’s weight while the front edge of the fore-end rests against the support surface.

If the fore-end has a schnabel tip, position the stud at least 4 cm (Dimension B) behind the point where the schnabel begins to curve downward.

If the stud is positioned too far forward, moving it rearward is usually a minor modification. Any drilling or modification of the stock should be carried out by a qualified gunsmith.

What if the Sling Swivel Stud Adapter does not fit my sling swivel stud?

The SpikePod Sling Swivel Stud Adapter is compatible with sling swivel studs up to 10 mm in diameter. If your rifle has a larger stud, it can usually be replaced with a standard stud no larger than 10 mm. Any required modification should be carried out by a qualified gunsmith.

What if the locking pin does not slide freely through the adapter and sling swivel stud?

The sling swivel stud may be positioned too low. Adjust its height by turning it counterclockwise approximately 0.5–2 turns.

The stud does not need to be fully tightened, as the installed SpikePod prevents it from rotating. However, make sure it remains firmly secured in the stock after adjustment.

If you are unsure, have the installation checked by a qualified gunsmith.

What if the SpikePod remains loose against the stock after tightening the installation screws?

The sling swivel stud may be positioned too high. Lower it slightly by turning it clockwise. If necessary, add a second OXA Sealant between the stock and the SpikePod to ensure a secure fit.

Make sure the stud remains firmly secured in the stock after adjustment.

If you are unsure, have the installation checked by a qualified gunsmith.

Can I use mounting adapters made by manufacturers other than GrovTec?

We have tested GrovTec adapters for compatibility with OXA SpikePod.

Adapters from other manufacturers may also be suitable, but always ensure that the SpikePod can be installed securely and reliably before use.

Can I install a SpikePod on a Blaser R8?

Yes. SpikePod can be installed on Blaser R8 rifles, although many R8 stocks do not have a sling swivel stud underneath.

On R8 Professional Success and Ultimate models, a standard sling swivel stud can be added to the separate front section of the fore-end. See the step-by-step installation video

On other R8 models, a sling swivel stud can usually be added as well. We recommend having the installation carried out by a qualified gunsmith.

3. Using the SpikePod

Is it easy to use?

Yes. SpikePod is simple and intuitive to use, and you can find practical tips on our How to Use page. However, as with any new piece of equipment, we strongly recommend practising with it at the shooting range before using it in a real hunting situation. This helps you learn how to get the best performance from the SpikePod with your own rifle.

How do I take support with it?

Open the spike on the side you want to use, or open both spikes when using a horizontal support surface.

Maintain a normal shooting grip, keeping your support hand under the rifle stock and clear of the SpikePod. Place the front edge of the stock gently against the support surface and apply steady forward pressure with your shoulder until the spike grips the surface. This creates stable two-point support.

Maintain steady shoulder pressure while aiming, firing and following through. After use, close both spikes fully into the SpikePod frame.

Which surfaces I can use to take support?

SpikePod is primarily designed for softer surfaces such as wood. It can also be used against harder surfaces, including brick and rock, but avoid applying excessive force. On hard surfaces, allow only the weight of the rifle to rest on the spike.

Does the spike damage the support surface?

Thanks to the shape of the spike tip, it does not penetrate deeply when moderate pressure is used. It will leave a small mark on the support surface, but under normal use it will not cause permanent damage to living trees.

Does it work for left-handed shooters?

Yes. Thanks to the dual-sided design, the spikes can be deployed and used from either side of the rifle.

Learn more on our How to use page.

Can I still use my rifle sling?

Yes. SpikePod includes an integrated sling attachment point, so rifle sling remains usable. If you prefer a quick-release sling swivel, an additional standard sling swivel stud can be installed in the threaded mounting point at the front of the SpikePod.

Can I still use a bipod with SpikePod?

Yes.

Hunter and Hunter L can be equipped with the OXA Picatinny Accessory Rail or a Spartan Classic Rifle Adapter for use with compatible bipods and tripods.

The Tactical model features an integrated 1.5-slot M-LOK accessory interface, allowing compatible third-party bipods / adapters to be installed.

Does the recoil damage the SpikePod or the rifle?

No.

When the rifle recoils, it moves rearward while the SpikePod instantly releases its grip from the support surface. Because the support is no longer loaded during recoil, the recoil force is not transferred into the SpikePod or the rifle stock.

Learn more on our How to use page.

What does mean "two-point" support?

Ideal stability is achieved through two-point support. This means that the front edge of the rifle stock rests against the support surface while the spike carries the rifle’s weight, creating two separate points of contact.

Learn more on our How to use page.

Why do I need to maintain steady shoulder pressure?

Steady forward pressure from your shoulder helps stabilize the rifle. When firing, recoil momentarily releases the spike from the support surface. Maintaining pressure helps the spike return to the support surface after recoil, keeping the rifle stable and ready for a follow-up shot.

Learn more on our How to use page.

Does the SpikePod require maintenance?

Very little. Clean it after use and
Dry it thoroughly before placing the firearm in a gun case or storage cabinet if the SpikePod has been used in wet conditions.
Occasionally apply a small drop of gun oil to both spike pivots.
