OXA SpikePod
Easy to install
OXA SpikePod can be installed on rifles and combination guns from most manufacturers using several different mounting methods. Explore the installation options below and choose the one that best suits your firearm.
SpikePod Hunter and Hunter L
Standard sling swivel stud installation
Step 1.
- Before installation, ensure that the firearm is unloaded, then place it upside down on a stable surface.
- Remove the OXA Sling Swivel Stud Adapter from the SpikePod frame using the Allen key provided with the product, and push the locking pin out of the adapter.
Step 2.
- Place the adapter over the rifle sling swivel stud so that the thicker edge between the adapter and the locking pin hole is against the rifle stock.
- Push the locking pin through the adapter and the sling swivel stud.
Step 3.
- Place the OXA Sealant against the rifle stock by inserting it through the adapter.
Step 4.
- Place the SpikePod body on top of the Sling Swivel Stud Adapter.
- Secure it with the mounting screws and tighten them lightly.
NOTE: Do not overtighten the screws. The SpikePod has a wide contact area against the stock, so heavy tightening is not necessary.
Alternative mounting options with compatible adapters
SpikePod Hunter and Hunter L can also be mounted using compatible third-party sling swivel stud adapters. Suitable adapter options are shown below.
Installation on a Picatinny rail
- Use the GrovTec GTSW265 Bipod Stud Rail Mount.
- Install the SpikePod normally onto the adapter’s sling swivel stud.
Installation on M-LOK interfaces and M-LOK slots under ARCA rails
- Use the GrovTec GTSW240 M-LOK Bipod Stud Mount.
- Install the adapter into a suitable M-LOK slot, including M-LOK slots located underneath compatible ARCA rails.
- Install the SpikePod normally onto the adapter’s sling swivel stud.
Installation examples for rifles without an existing mounting point
Some rifles do not have a suitable mounting point on the underside of the fore-end as standard. In these cases, SpikePod can often be installed by adding a sling swivel stud or another suitable mounting point. See the examples below.
Blaser R8 installation example
In this video, the installation is demonstrated on a Blaser R8 Ultimate Hunter Camo. The same installation principle can be used on Blaser R8 Ultimate and Professional Success models using the removable fore-end cap.

Hunter and Hunter L accessory installation
Hunter and Hunter L can be equipped with the OXA Picatinny Accessory Rail, the Spartan Classic Rifle Adapter, or both, providing mounting options for compatible bipods, tripods, lights, cameras and other accessories.
OXA Picatinny Accessory Rail installation
- Place the OXA Picatinny Accessory Rail into the mounting slot at the front of the SpikePod.
- Secure the rail with the supplied screw. Apply a medium-strength thread-locking compound before tightening.
Spartan Classic Rifle Adapter installation
- Place the OXA Fitting Adapter supplied with the SpikePod into the mounting slot at the front of the SpikePod.
- Position the Spartan Classic Rifle Adapter on top of the OXA Fitting Adapter.
- Secure it using the shortest screw supplied with the Spartan Classic Rifle Adapter. Apply a medium-strength thread-locking compound before tightening.
Installing the Spartan Classic Rifle Adapter and OXA Picatinny Accessory Rail together
- Place the OXA Picatinny Accessory Rail into the mounting slot at the front of the SpikePod.
- Position the Spartan Classic Rifle Adapter on top of the OXA Picatinny Accessory Rail.
- Secure it using the shortest screw supplied with the Spartan Classic Rifle Adapter. Apply a medium-strength thread-locking compound before tightening.
SpikePod Tactical M-LOK installation
SpikePod Tactical M-LOK mounts directly to a compatible M-LOK handguard using the two supplied M-LOK screws and T-nuts.
- Position the SpikePod on the underside of the M-LOK handguard at the desired mounting position.
- Secure the SpikePod using the two supplied M-LOK screws.
- For optimal two-point support, we recommend positioning the SpikePod so that approximately 0.5–1 M-LOK slot length of the handguard remains in front of it. This allows the front edge of the handguard and the spike to contact the support surface.
Frequently Asked Questions about Compatibility & Installation
Which SpikePod model fits my rifle?
Choose your SpikePod model based on your rifle’s stock width and type:
- Hunter – Fits most traditional hunting rifle stocks up to 45 mm wide
- Hunter L – Designed for wider rifle stocks over 45 mm, such as GRS and KKC
- Tactical M-LOK – For rifles with an M-LOK handguard
How do I measure my rifle stock?
Measure the width of your rifle stock at the sling swivel stud mounting point.
If the width is:
- up to 45 mm → Hunter
- over 45 mm → Hunter L
Alternatively, use our downloadable OXA Fit Template to check which model best fits your firearm.
What if my rifle does not have a sling swivel stud?
The primary mounting method for Hunter and Hunter L is a standard sling swivel stud on the underside of the rifle stock, with a maximum diameter of 10 mm. If your rifle does not have one, a suitable stud can usually be installed.
Hunter and Hunter L can also be mounted using compatible adapters for M-LOK, Picatinny, UIT/Anschütz and QD sling cup interfaces, as well as M-LOK slots located underneath compatible ARCA rails. Direct screw mounting to a suitable stock or fore-end is also possible. Any drilling or modification should be carried out by a qualified gunsmith.

Which firearm brands are compatible with SpikePod?
SpikePod compatibility is not determined by a specific brand or model. It depends primarily on the stock width and geometry, the available mounting interface and the mounting position. SpikePod can therefore be installed on rifles from most manufacturers.
Can I install a SpikePod on an over-and-under combination gun or a drilling?
Yes. SpikePod works very well on combination guns and drillings.
Installation is typically carried out by adding a standard sling swivel stud to the fore-end or by mounting the SpikePod directly with screws.
Although installation is usually straightforward, we strongly recommend having it carried out by a qualified gunsmith.
What if my firearm has a flat-bottomed stock?
The underside of the stock does not need to match perfectly the shape of the SpikePod mounting surface. SpikePod can also be installed on a completely flat-bottomed stock, as it tightens securely against the sides of the stock.
What is the optimal mounting position for the SpikePod?
For the best usability, the sling swivel stud should be positioned at least 4 cm—and ideally 7–9 cm—behind the front edge of the fore-end (dimension A). This allows for natural two-point support, with the spike carrying the rifle’s weight while the front edge of the fore-end rests against the support surface.
If the fore-end has a schnabel tip, position the stud at least 4 cm (Dimension B) behind the point where the schnabel begins to curve downward.
If the stud is positioned too far forward, moving it rearward is usually a minor modification. Any drilling or modification of the stock should be carried out by a qualified gunsmith.
What if the OXA Sling Swivel Stud Adapter does not fit my sling swivel stud?
The SpikePod Sling Swivel Stud Adapter is compatible with sling swivel studs up to 10 mm in diameter. If your rifle has a larger stud, it can usually be replaced with a standard stud no larger than 10 mm. Any required modification should be carried out by a qualified gunsmith.
What if the locking pin does not slide freely through the adapter and sling swivel stud?
The sling swivel stud may be positioned too low. Adjust its height by turning it counterclockwise approximately 0.5–2 turns.
The stud does not need to be fully tightened, as the installed SpikePod prevents it from rotating. However, make sure it remains firmly secured in the stock after adjustment.
If you are unsure, have the installation checked by a qualified gunsmith.
What if the SpikePod remains loose against the stock after tightening the installation screws?
The sling swivel stud may be positioned too high. Lower it slightly by turning it clockwise. If necessary, add a second OXA Sealant between the stock and the SpikePod to ensure a secure fit.
Make sure the stud remains firmly secured in the stock after adjustment.
If you are unsure, have the installation checked by a qualified gunsmith.
Can I use mounting adapters made by manufacturers other than GrovTec?
We have tested GrovTec adapters for compatibility with OXA SpikePod.
Adapters from other manufacturers may also be suitable, but always ensure that the SpikePod can be installed securely and reliably before use.
Can I install a SpikePod on a Blaser R8?
Yes. SpikePod can be installed on Blaser R8 rifles, although many R8 stocks do not have a sling swivel stud underneath.
On R8 Professional Success and Ultimate models, a standard sling swivel stud can be added to the separate front section of the fore-end. See the Step-by-Step installation video
On other R8 models, a sling swivel stud can usually be added as well. We recommend having the installation carried out by a qualified gunsmith.
